Orbex offers opportunity to see behind the scenes of Sutherland Spaceport

Orbex, the Forres-based orbital launch services company, is offering local residents a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to get behind-the-scenes of the launch site, which is currently in development.

The Spaceport Public Open Day, which will take place on 31st August, will allow a limited number of local residents to visit the Spaceport site as well as learn more about Orbex’s progress and the technology behind its Prime rocket.

The Open Day will be held between 09:30am-4:30pm and begin at the Kyle Centre in Tongue, where visitors will be able to participate in a series of engaging activities, including:

  • Insight into Orbex Prime: Learn about Orbex’s Prime rocket and its innovative use of bio-propane, which significantly reduces the carbon footprint of launches. Attendees will also see the Orbex Prime rocket model and demos explaining the science and technology behind space launches.
  • Guided Tour of Sutherland Spaceport: Visitors will be transported by shuttle buses provided by Transport for Tongue and The Durness Bus from the Kyle Centre to the Spaceport site. During the tour, they will have the chance to find out more about the unique floating road and learn about the environmental management practices in place.

Phillip Chambers, CEO of Orbex, commented: “We are really excited to open our doors to the local community and share the exciting developments at Sutherland Spaceport. Our Open Day is a fantastic opportunity for us to not only showcase the hard work of the team and progress towards launch, but to thank those who have supported Orbex’s journey.”
