We recently launched our annual internship programme, providing students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Scotland’s growing space sector. As we continue developing Orbex Prime for our inaugural launch later this year, the 2025/26 programme offers nine positions across various areas of the business. Interns will have the chance to contribute to rocket design, data and software development, electronics, testing, operations and legal.
To offer insight into the experience, we spoke with last year’s interns about their time with us and the advice they would give to those joining in the months ahead.
Applications for the 2025/26 internship programme close on 3rd March at 5pm, so make sure you don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to join us on our journey to launch!
Reshma Raji, Structures Intern, 2024-2025 said:
“My internship at Orbex has been an incredible learning experience. I've been given real responsibility and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects. The team's support and guidance have been invaluable, helping me to develop my skills and grow both professionally and personally. I'm grateful for this experience and excited to see what the future holds for Orbex."
Toby Thomson, Avionics Engineering Intern, 2024-2025 said:
“Orbex has assembled a team of friendly and highly experienced engineers, making my childhood dream a reality. There is a diversity of problems to solve, which the interns are treated as full partners in. Cryogenics, composites, advanced manufacturing, mission analysis, avionics, rocket propulsion and embedded software - it's all here. Just don't blink, or 5-months will disappear!”
Jabez Lewis, Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) Intern, 2024-2025 said:
"At Orbex I have been able to learn from the best in the industry, and challenged to be better everyday! From the technical innovation, to seeing how a space company operates, it has been the most exciting and interesting place for me to do my internship."
Bhoomika Suchetha, Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) Avionics Intern, 2024-2025 said:
“Before joining, my manager messaged me to tell me I had been successful in securing my internship and told me to 'buckle up.' After being on the team, I quickly realised just how steep the learning curve was, and that I would be traveling at rocket speed, constantly learning and absorbing from the wider team around me.”
Rowan Spencer, Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) Intern, 2024-2025 said:
“Rockets have always been a huge passion of mine. When I saw that Orbex was recruiting, I jumped at the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a company that is at the forefront of UK’s space sector. Being able to work with such a skilled and dynamic team has been an incredible experience, and it’s something I’ll carry with me throughout my career.”
Noah English-Polch, Software Engineering Intern, 2024-2025 said:
"My time at Orbex has been a fantastic way to kickstart my career in the space industry. It has been exciting to develop my skills as a software engineer by contributing to the first UK made orbital rocket to launch from British soil."
Oscar MacDonald, Legal Intern, 2024
"This internship has proven to be very insightful and a valuable experience because of the unique opportunity to work for one of the leading space companies in the world and in a legal position. As I aspire to work as a space lawyer, an opportunity like this is very rare. As I come from a non-STEM background, learning about the work within structures, AIT and ground segment to name a few, has certainly improved my overall commercial knowledge which will prove to be very valuable when working on laws and policies within the space sector."
