Construction to Commence on Passing Places Agreed as Part of Planning Conditions for Sutherland Spaceport

Forres, UK, 12th May, 2023 – Orbex has announced that passing place improvements will be undertaken on roads on the route towards Sutherland Spaceport, with construction set to commence imminently. Work on passing places is expected to be complete by mid-July 2023.

The work involves the formation of new lay-bys and the extension of existing lay-bys along the A836 between Tongue and Bettyhill at 17 locations. Included in the works will be the excavation and installation of lay-bys and the improvement of lay-by surfacing. The contractor, John Gunn and Sons Ltd, will begin at the first passing place located to the north of the Naver Bridge and work westward.

Traffic will be managed using stop/go boards, and delays will be minimised as far as practically possible, though road users may need to allow extra time on their journey.
