Orbex aerospace engineers have completely re-thought and re-designed the orbital launch vehicle, from avionics and software to structures and propulsion.

We use a wide range of advanced materials and techniques to create each launch vehicle, including the use of additive manufacturing for almost the entire propulsion subsystem and carbon fibre / graphene composites for the main structures and tanks.

We provide flexible, reliable, dedicated and responsive orbital launch service to small, micro and nano satellite customers.

The very large print volume allows us to print our full main stage rocket engines in a single print run. This means we don't need to join smaller sections with welds, bolts or flanges, eliminating the need for any unreliable hot joints, avoiding outdated and error-prone additional processing steps, reducing mass and fully automating production.

World's largest 3D Printed Rocket Engine

Unveiled publicly in early 2019, our 3D printed rocket engine is uniquely manufactured in a single piece without joins in partnership with additive manufacturer SLM Solutions. Given the extreme temperature and pressure fluctuations involved in space flight, this gives the engine an advantage over other rocket engines, which can suffer from weaknesses associated with joining and welding.

It is also the first commercial rocket engine designed to work with bio-propane, a clean-burning, renewable fuel source that cuts carbon emissions by 90% compared to fossil hydrocarbon fuels, supplied by Orbex’s new exclusive BioLPG fuel partner Calor.
