Orbex Hosts Rocket Launch Workshop at Kinloss Primary School

Pupils at Kinloss Primary School celebrated World Space Week (4–10 October) with a hands-on rocket workshop delivered by Forres-based spaceflight company Orbex.

Orbex staff joined the school’s P7 class to explore the science behind rockets, replicate their own rocket launch and discuss how Orbex’s will launch small satellites into space.

During the session, pupils had the chance to make and launch their own straw rockets, before seeing whose design would fly the furthest.

Orbex is developing the environmentally sustainable Prime launch vehicle and is committed to inspiring young people in Moray and beyond to encourage careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Phil Chambers, CEO of Orbex, said: “Although we build our rockets a little differently at Orbex, it’s fantastic to see young minds engaged and excited by the idea of space. It’s a reminder that science doesn’t just happen in laboratories or at launch sites - it begins in classrooms. You never know - a small spark of interest today could be what leads a young person into a future career in STEM. We’re proud to support our local schools and to highlight the role Scotland is playing in shaping the future of space travel.”

Mr Thomson at Kinloss Primary school, said: “It’s not every day you have members from a real rocket company in the classroom. Opportunities like this really help bring science and STEM to life, and it’s so important for children to experience that from a young age. The class absolutely loved it – they had a blast!”
